Hello everyone,

I want to build a Gaming PC, so I used the System Builder feature on PCPartPicker. But after I've selected everything it seems that I got 2 compatibiliy issues, but I don't know if my build would still work.

The Issues:

1. The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled.

2. The motherboard M.2 slot #2 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated with a PCIe-based M.2 drive, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled.

My Build:
CPU - Intel Core i7-8700K Boxed
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED Turbo (Red)
Motherboard - MSI Z370 GAMING M5 ATX LGA1151
Memory - Corsair Vengeance LED 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200
Storage - Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 SSD
Storage 2 - WD Black Series 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM HD
Video Card - MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB GAMING X
Case - Phanteks Enthoo Luxe ATX Full Tower Case
Case Fan (3x) - Phanteks PH-F140SP_BK 82.1 CFM 140mm
Power Supply - be quiet! Pure Power 10 700W
Operating System - Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Monitor - LG 29UM59-P 29.0" 2560x1080 75Hz
Monitor 2 - HP VH240a 23.8" 1920x1080 60Hz
Keyboard - Logitech G413 Silver
Mouse - Logitech G900 CHAOS SPECTRUM
Mousepad - Corsair Gaming MM300 Extended
Headphones - Sennheiser GAME ZERO
Headphonestand - Corsair ST100 RGB Premium
Webcam - Logitech C922 Pro
Accessorie - NZXT Hue+ White/Purple

And if it doesn't work should I get a new motherboard, but which one? And if you guys see more issues I'd be very thankful for suggestions!

Anyway, thank you for reading and your time.

Z370 GAMING M5 Motherboard Specifications Page

6 x SATA 6Gb/s ports

The SATA1/ SATA5 port will be unavailable when an M.2 SATA SSD module has been installed in the M.2_1/ M.2_2 slot. The SATA5 and SATA 6 ports will be unavailable when M.2 PCIe SSD module has been installed in the M.2_2 slot.

This means that one or two of the six SATA ports are going to be unavailable if you use an M.2 SSD. As long as you're not using those SATA ports, there will not be an issue.

It may work ok at stock if you have a good ambient temp but I'd highly recommend something considerably better such as the Dark Rock 4 so it'll stay cooler and you won't need to replace it when you decide to overclock.

Cryorig H7 is a good affordable solution that outperforms the 212

The hyper 212 EVO will perform perfectly fine unless you plan to overclock. The cryorig H7 is,better and gives you a 3 Celcius drop at about $7 more so it may be a better option for an 8700k. Anything else may get you another 3 Celcius drop for $50 isn't worth it unless you plan to overclock.
