The use of thermal paste?

Is thermal paste used for avoiding the overheating of the processor? Or to my knowledge something like that... Please do your best to answer in a not so complicated way.

thermal paste is crucial in keeping the CPU from overheating. you might be able to run a system without it for a time, but the chip will run much hotter and die a heat death much faster than a properly cooled (thermal paste used) CPU.

the effective heat transfer is required for the cooler to do its job.

a coat cannot keep you warm until you put it on. a cooler cannot cool properly without paste.

Yes. Thermal paste goes between the cooler and the top of the CPU.

It helps transfer heat. If you were to just stick a cooler on top of a cpu without thermal paste, so metal to metal, it would not cool effectively at all. The thermal paste fills in all the microscopic holes and imperfections on the top pf the CPU and the coolers cold plate and allows heat to move from the CPU into the cooler.

thermal paste is used to fill voids in the mating materials.
side A and side B no matter how polished will have microscopic scratches, those scratches hold air which is an insulator.
thermal paste fills the scratches and voids with a conductor, eliminating the insulating air.

CPU gets hot, paste transfers heat across scratches and voids in each side, heat travels through and is then dissipated by the cooler.

Thermal grease helps transfer the heat from the cpu to the heatsink. Direct metal to metal contact would be best however it would be very hard and expensive to have the surfaces meet perfectly hence the use of a thermal material to fill in the gaps.
