Help me Troubleshoot My Problem: Swapping out Graphics Card, Computer Beeps, No Boot

I'm trying to upgrade a Graphics Card on a HP Pavilion to a GTX 1050, with no auxiliary power input. With the new card installed, the computer beeps, but sits idle at the HP Boot screen. I suspect it's a PSU issue, in that there isn't enough power to run the new card. I have a 300w PSU now, and the graphics card manual suggests 300w minimum. Two questions: (1) if the graphics card is the only component that has been changed, are there any other potential issue besides lack of power? I swapped the graphic cards back and forth, and the original always boots just fine. and (2) to determine if lack of power is the issue, can I just plug in a second PSU to the wall, and swap out the 24-pin motherboard cable, thus adding a ton of extra power to the "system" without the hassle of swapping the entire PSU and all its cables?

I wouldn't use a second power supply like that. I would recommend using a modular power supply though. That allows you to install just the cables that you need (not every cable that comes with the power supply). It makes for a cleaner installation. But is a whole lot easier to do at the same time.
