Hello. I was just wondering. I own an asus maximus viii formula motherboard with onboard hd audio codec by realtek. Im thinking of purchasing a creative blaster z dedicated sound card. Im just wondering is there any need for me to purchase a sound card that will gain me higher quality audio than the on board audio of my motherboard?

Solution
Assuming your on-board is compatible and has enough power to push your end driver.
The thing is in order to get good sound quality...
The end driver will influence around 80% of the whole sound quality. Getting a good end driver is your top priority.
If you want to push the 20% then you should consider getting better soundcard or DAC.

Notw, you have a AV receiver? I assume you have only those passive speakers.
Just use either optical or HDMI.
AV-Receiver is the soundcard. Your onboard soundcard is doing close to nothing actually
