I have collected several ambit and ubee cable modems over the years. I only have coaxial catv running through my house and old telephone wiring. I was wondering if I could use the ambit cable modems as media converters and run my Internet through the house with these. I was going to set up a test connecting two modems together via a coaxial cable to the wan ports, then connect in my pc with an rj-45 connection to perform configuration. does anyone have experience in doing such a thing?

Solution
You need a device called MoCA to do what you are talking about.

Cable modems are both "clients" for the lack of a better term. They only talk to "servers", the ISP cable equipment. They can not talk to each other.

Can't think of a better example but cable modems are not designed to talk to each other.
