So I bought an used Asus Strix RX 470 4 GB card with 8 months warranty remaining and the card has been used for 1 year and 6 months by the previous owner. Issue is the card is overheating a lot without doing any OC on a simple game like Overwatch. As soon as I run Overwatch the card shoots up to 75 degrees, and it will reach up to 80 degrees.
The Asus Strix card should go up to 65 degrees max under maximum load/stress wheres as my card is going up to 80 degrees in Overwatch which is not really a demanding title. I don't think this a thermal paste drying up issue as the card is 1 year and 6 months old. Both fans are spinning properly, I have tried custom fan curves in MSI Afterburner and also put the fans at 100 percent capacity, still no significant improvement in temperatures.
I am sure it's not an air flow issue in my casing because I was running the R9 280X gpu earlier and it never went over 75 degrees even in heavy stress, and that is a much older card notorious for heating. Claiming warranty isn't going to help, as they don't see excessive heating as an issue and won't replace my RX 470.
I need your expert opinions on this matter, what else am I missing? What can cause the overheating? Please let me know your thoughts and solutions, thanks in advance.
