Hello,

I just bought a 128gb ssd and want to transfer my os from my 1tb hdd. After researching online, it seems like i would need to fresh install Windows 10 on my ssd. But i have a few questions that I would like to know before I do this.

First, my friend gave me a Windows 10 usb, 3 years ago, when I first got this pc. So if I install Windows from the usb, would there be any issue? As it probably has a very old model of windows 10 in it. If I need to make a fresh windows 10 usb, can you link me a video/post on how to do it (preferably a video)

Second, after I install Windows 10 on my ssd, how do I get rid of the os on my hdd? Again a link to a video or a post would be appareciated.

That's all I need to know. Thanks

Solution
1) As long as you have Internet connection your old Windows 10 USB should be fine, but if you really want to create a fresh Windows 10 USB, you can download the MediaCreationTool. Just google for it. (As I live in Germany I cannot link directly to the English version of the program. That is why I am asking to google for it.)

2) First, I would recommend to unplug your old hard drive from the computer when installing Windows 10 on your SSD, because if it is not unplugged, the Windows installation will recognize the old Windows and make it so you need to choose from which Windows you want to boot at every startup.

After successfully installing Windows 10 on your SSD, just plug in your old hard drive in the computer, and boot from the SSD...

After successfully installing Windows 10 on your SSD, just plug in your old hard drive in the computer, and boot from the SSD (which should automatically happen). [strike]Now right click on whatever drive the OS from your old hard drive appears in, and choose "Format..." and click "Start". (You can leave the "Quick Format" option.) Done.[/strike]

Edit: Oh, sorry. I forgot a hard drive that had Windows on it has multiple partitions. Please follow USAFRet's instructions for deleting the partitions. After that just right click on the "Unallocated" portion and choose "New Simple Volume..." and follow instructions. Done.

With only the new SSD connected, install the OS. Link above.

Verify the new SSD is first in the boot order.
Later, reconnect the old drive.
Open Disk Management, and DELETE all existing partitions on it.
Reformat, and use as desired.

You delete it with the Windows tool "Disk Management". It is in Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management, then left at Storage > Disk Management.

Then you just find your old hard drive at the bottom where there are a few "Disk no." When you have found your drive right click at everything and "Delete Volume..." untile there is a single "Unallocated" space. There create a new volume with right click and "New Simple Volume..." and you are done.
