I have a gtx 1080
i7 4790k
and im getting around 290 fps in game.
sometimes itll dip to 120
and i have a 144hz monitor

Shouldnt it be performing better?
And if i try to run obs my fps just goes to shit with it.

I just reinstalled windows and nothing happened.
I have mat_queue_mode 2 on and thats it

Regardless if I change the resolution the fps is still the same roughly.
Ive set all my nvidia options on what i normally used for overwatch.
My drivers are up to date and freshly installed.
No cpu overheating. I have it oc'd to 4.4 i think
my mobo is a asrock z97 anniversary.

TL:DR: FPS TRASH ME NEED MORE UNGA BUNGA IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN TURN OFF OR TURN ON TO FIX MY FPS.

Pls help me dads.

Your cpu automatically goes up to 4.4 on its own, so make sure you have not turned off turbo boost. Also is your windows power setting set to high power/performance? Go into Nvidia panel and make sure your monitor setting is set to 144hz and not 60hz. I have same cpu/gpu and have everything on high settings and still get high fps. Also as long as you are getting near 144 fps to match your monitor at 144hz that is all you need for good looking playing.

I have everything on low, but even without obs is this fps normal? Even when changing the resolution doesnt change the fps?

Or do I just settle for this

Exactly, changing the resolution does not affect fps, that means your videocard can do more but you are hold back by your cpu. Let me elaborate a bit, CS:GO is a max 2 core user, so no matter how many cores you got it will not increase fps, but high IPC or high frequency it will. Look on google how to manually force cs to use 4 cores but valve does nto recomend that, you can give a try.

You don't need a better CPU. The i7-4790K outperforms an i7-7700(non-K) and slightly outperforms an i7-6700K. Even the new i7-8700K is less then 20% faster. Not to mention with the right cooling/tweaks, you can achieve a solid 5GHz OC on it.
