Hi everybody :
My goal is to FORMAT my Hard Drive then do a clean install of Windows 7. I don't know if these are the correct steps. 1) Start PC in Safe Mode. 2) click on MY COMPUTER. 3) Right click on C;/, then select FORMAT. But before re-formatting the Hard Drive, make sure that the Windows 7 Install Disk is already in the Hard Drive. After formatting the Hard Drive, re-start the Desktop PC. Run the SETUP on the Windows 7 Install Disk (to set up the sectors on the Hard Drive) Then, install (a clean copy of) Windows 7. I just need confirmation that this would be the correct procedure. My System : Windows 7 Pro 32-bit, 500 Gb Hard Drive , 3Gb RAM, Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H Motherboard. Advice ? garystan

You need to BOOT from your Win 7 DVD.
Not try to run it from the existing OS.

No.

1. Disconnect all drives except the one you want the OS on
2. Create your Windows 7 install USB or DVD
3. Boot from that
4. When it asks 'where', select Custom. You'll be presented with a list of all existing partitions.
5. Select each one, DELETE
6. Proceed on, letting Windows create what it needs

I followed your instructions. But, there was one more option. After selecting DELETE, then NEXT, Inoticed that there was one more option labeled NEW. I wasn't sure if I should select this option. I'm not sure if I made the correct decision......so I just clicked on NEXT (not selecting the NEWE option). garystan

"New" would have been "New partition"

What happened after you went past that?

After I selected NEXT (instead of NEW), it proceeded to re-install Windows 7. I noticed that.....in SAFE mode I had the option of Formatting the Hard Drive. Whereas, in NORTMAL mode, I couldn't FORMAT the Hard Drive because "it was in use". Thanks for your reply and advice. garystan
