Hi, I recently bought an 30 meters internet cable but I dont know why, its limiting my speed.(I should be getting 250-300mb/s but I'm getting 80-90mb/s). The cable I had before it was 20 meters and it was working perfectly fine. Well I thought it might be the length so I bought another one at 3 meters but I get the exact same speed. I have to mention that both cables 3 and 30 meters are cat 5e.
I have googled a bit on this matter, but didnt manage to find a solution, I would appreciate any kind of help, thank you.
I forgot to mention that it affects only download speed not upload one too.

Solution

The quality of the cable can restrict the LAN connection speed to 100Mbps. You need to have the connection between the PC and Router running at 1Gbps or 1000Mbps to achieve your ISP speed. One way to determine your LAN connection speed is
right click on the network icon (lower right desktop status icon
left click on Open Network & Internet Settings
left click on Change adapter options
right click on the active LAN connection and pick Status
the status will display you LAN connection speed you need to see 1,0 Gbps if it says 100Mbps you now know the cause of...

I don't know how thats important when the cable before was connected just the same and it was working just fine, but if its really is that important I could check it out.

Since it worked before it's probably the cable. 30 meters is close to the maximum length of Cat5e cable can be used for 1.0Gbps. Cat6 cable would be a better alternative for a cable that long to work at 1.0Gbps

Solution

It being the cable is likely correct BUT you need to not post wrong information. Cat5e cable is rated to 1gbit at 100 meters not 30meters. Cat6 does not go farther than cat5e both are limited to 1gbit at 100meters.

Cat5e distance limitation for gigabit is 100 meters. A 30 meter cable is not even close. There is no requirement for cat6, cat6a, etc. Cat5e, properly terminated will work.

I agree and apologize for my mistake regarding max length. Yes if CAT5e is properly terminated it will work, The OP mentioned he bought a cable that isn't working so my suggestion to get a CAT6 cable was based on giving him a solution that would eliminate the possibility of poor terminations if redoing, or quality of purchased cables.
