Really the main difference between b450 & x470 is sli support.

Past that you can't say x470 is high end & b450 is mid range , just like b350 & x370 there are good & bad quality boards for both.
I've seen upper end b series boards that are way better quality than cheap x series boards & which offer better overclocks.

The x370 auros & b350 strix are pretty equal quality wise , both have decent vrm setups .

The asus only has 4 x sata sockets though , bear that in mind if youre a mad collector of digital media (4 sata ports would not be enough for me personally)

I have been switching mobo brands since years, all of those brands are good (Gigabyte, MSI, ASUS, ASRock)
The motherboard quality itself differs individually, not purely due to the brand.
I would rather rely on reviews on individual boards than purely rely on brands.
If the price is the same, I would rather get the GIGABYTE X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING due to better classed chipset.

B450 is newer but the chipset is suppose to be for mid end.
X470 is older but the chipset is suppose to be for high end.
For most cases, you won't even notice the differences.

It is also very wise to check the available interfaces of the mobos. Perhaps the one does not have the interface you want or need.

Gigabyte is not a bad mark. Also Aorus has 2 M2 slots one suppoting SATA also, the other one is only SSD. Gigabyte has dual bios which is a great option if BIOS upfate fails. X470 is high end chipset so if I were you I would schoose Gigabyte instead of Asus. Yes Asus is good however Gigabyte is also as good as Asus. My old GB 990FX after 7 years of usage had no problems.

B450 is developped for mid range MB's while X470 is top of the line. When comparing an Asus B450 with GB X470 the mainboard features needed to be checked througly as they are on the same price segment. So what makes the real difference when choosign between these two? onboard sound chip same. Gigabyte has better chipset with more connectivity options. So here I wouldn't choose Asus over Gigabyte.

I choose ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING. This motherboard has premium features (sound, NIC, additional USB ports) with mid-range chipset. I'm not going to use SLI and heavy overclock my 2700x CPU. So, I think it will best choice for me.
First time I'd like to choose GIGABYTE X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING but after reading many negative feedback about quality of the motherboard GIGABYTE X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING in Newegg online store I've changed my mind.

More expensive prices on mobos are not caused by the chipset alone.
There are still many other factors e.g.
Brand e.g. ASUS tends to be more expensive.
Better components e.g. capacitors, etc. also play a role.
More features (some are useless) e.g. RGB LEDs also play a role.
Sometimes, if you find special offers, this also play a role.
