The error shown is sadly an I/O error, those can not be repaired, therefore we recommend you to replace the drive.

OK, those errors (when trying to initialize) can indicate a file corruption, which can be repaired by erasing the drive.
When your friend comes back, you two can try to format the drive in the CMD. Here we have a little manual to help you guys to do that.
