Hi guys i have dell 7910 work station its dual core xeon with single E5 2620 V3 2.40 CPU. My question is i am looking to purchase another CPU i found one locally for $150 really good price my question do i need to look for something specific when it comes to markings on cpu one i found is Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2620 v3 2.40Ghz and this sis the full info https://ark.intel.com/products/83352/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2620-v3-15M-Cache-2_40-GHz thi sis the same cpu just wondering if it will be compatible.

CPUs undergo revisions as errata, bugs, or flaws are discovered by the wider public that got missed in design and testing. Intel fixes the errors in hardware and releases a new stepping. As William P confirmed there was only one stepping released for that chip. So they should all be identical unless you manage to run into an engineering sample.

It was a problem back in the day to get two same model CPUs with different steppings that wouldn't work in a dual CPU system. I did it once with some Pentium IIs.

Hi thanks for help last question Hi guys thanks so much for all your help i am going tomorrow to get it so guy send me pic of the cpu and i pulled my out only difference is the few numbers on the top of the chip my cpu is L535B514 and one i will get it L538C275 as you can see last 4 numbers are not same and one latter. does this make a difference i don't think it does it should be good to go all the other markings are the same
