Looking to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 from an fx 6300

MoBo: GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P.
OS: Windows 10
HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda Hard Drive 3.5" SATA III - ST1000DM003
RAM: Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz CL9 DDR3
GPU: Radeon R9 270x
PSU: EVGA 500W


Looking to upgrade my AMD fx 6300 to a Ryzen 5, essentially asking for advice/recommendations as it would require me to change my mobo too since it uses a am4 socket.

I'm probably missing some obvious details here but any replies are appreciated.

Main idea is gaming, built this pc a few years back as a budget gaming machine and thought it was time to upgrade. Just wanna start with the cpu.

Been looking into the GIGA-BYTE GA-A320M-S2H mobo as an upgrade to am4. Just a case of making sure that everything will work together if i made these changes to start with. I get very paranoid before upgrading :')

Here is what I recommend for new upgrade. You will still have to update the bios on the motherboard, but that can probably be taken to a local shop or best buy for them to do. On top of that, I would recommend moving your OS to an SSD for faster boot. IDK if you plan on upgrading the graphics card but I added a RX 580 for ya. let me know if you want to change anything, or others might pop in and help as well.

If I were you:
I'd stick with the 270x for now, you will be spending money on a CPU/motherboard/DDR4 ram combo and that's expensive enough. The 270x is still at least entry level in gaming, so you'd be looking at spending almost $200 on a worthwhile upgrade to that.

Take a look at the differences between the 320 and 350 motherboards. Do a little pre-planning. Are you SURE you won't need what a 350 offers? Are you SURE saving that bit of money will help you elsewhere?

As long as you get a 4 core/8 thread CPU I think you'll be fine for a long time to come. At Newegg, the 1400 is only $10 less than the 1600, that being the case I'd get the 1600. For $10 more you can get the 2600, but that's actually a $20 jump from 1400 to 2600. I'd rather put that money in a better motherboard, but once again that depends on what you need out of a motherboard. In short, the 1400 is 'enough' while the 1600 or 2600 would be ideal.

Outside of the big three, CPU/motherboard/ram, you can reuse everything from your old system. The DDR4 system ram is going to eat up a lot of your budget, but there's no avoiding that. If you choose a motherboard with 4 ram slots, you can put 2x4gb in there to start and you'd still have two empty slots for future ram upgrades when/if it gets cheaper.

looks good, whats the speed on the RAM? Ryzen processors work better with faster speeds, so ram anywhere from 2800 to 3200 should be perfect.

Speeds on those are only 2100, found some corsair ram that's slightly more expensive but has a clock speed of 3000

depends where you get it. If it is online, it is unsure if it is updated or not. if you go to a local shop, then maybe they can update it for free or a little more.

As I recall, the updates were released in December of last year. So if the motherboard was made before then but has been sitting in a warehouse all this time then it won't be updated. If possible, email the seller and see if they can confirm if this motherboard is from a later batch.
