a few days ago i turned on my pc and went to get a drink and when i came back my pc was on but my monitor and peripherals werent showing any signs of being on, so i turned it off and on and it worked, but today i got no signal and it took 4-5 startups for it to finally start and when it did it was slow, i have no clue why this is happening and i would love to hear some good advice on what to do. Thanks!

OK. I'm glad that you were able to fix this yourself. However if this issue re-appears then you may need a new PSU. Good luck.
It could be anything, PSU, motherboard, RAM, GPU, SSD/HDD, bad configuration etc. Please post your complete system specs in order get more accurate advice. Without knowing your system and its parts, it's very difficult to find the real cause of this issue.

I would say start with the PSU. I've seen this behavior before, same symptoms. Sometimes it takes unplugging the PSU from the wall and then it boots. You might get a few more cycles of this, but I suspect there is going to be a loud pop followed by smoke in the very near future.

Do you have a spare PSU to test with? I presume this is a consistent problem so testing with another power supply should quickly verify / eliminate it as the problem.

You didn't list the important component, the PSU. As techgeek already said, the first part you should check is the PSU. If you have a generic PSU with questionable build quality you'll face stability and boot issues. So you have to test your system with another "good" PSU. If you don't have a spare one available try to borrow a PSU from a friend. Only then you'll know whether the PSU is bad or failing in which case you have to replace it. If the PSU proves to be fine then it's time to check the other components but in order to get there you have to be certain that your PSU is fine. Good luck.

I didn't mention it because I didn't really remember what it was all I know is that it's not really generic, well it was like 50 bucks but I remember it being a known brand, I'll check when I get home, thanks!

The power supply is the most likely culprit for the symptoms you are describing. The issue with continuing to use it (if it is the reason) is that at some point it's going to go "pop". Now you might get likely and it doesn't take any components with it, but you might not and find you have to replace one or more expensive parts.

If the symptoms you are describing are consistent (happen everytime or nearly everytime you shut it down and try to restart it) then this makes it very easy to troubleshoot. Put in a new PSU (or known good PSU) and if the problem doesn't reoccur, then you're golden.
