Why is my computer randomly crashing/turning off?

Right, so, sometimes I try to start up a game, and then my computer crashes, so I restart my PC. Often times, though, my PC doesn't start up again. I usually have to wait a bit (~40 mins) for my PC to start up again, but I'm still not able to start up my games anymore. What do?

Solution
tbh i would suggest you ask a friend if he/she has a card that fits inside your pc and see if you can play ... no crash = your gtx is failing. then replace your graphics card.

but perhaps hold out and maybe another toms member could shed more light your way.

computer specs would be useful

amount of free spac on hdd

psu (possible fault with it or the cable/fuse in wall plug)

use HWinfo to see your temperatures (possible heating issue causing pc to shut down until it is cool again)

CPU: AMD Athlon 880K Quad-Core
Motherboard: Gigabyte something
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950
Storage: Samsung EVO 250 SSD & some random ass HDD

I have a lot of free space on my secondary drive. Could it be that I don't have enough on my primary?

Also, I tested my PSU, it's fine.

I have a built in thing to change my temps and shit, I turned them all pretty low.

SSD performance starts to reduce as you pass the 70% full, please remember that your pagefile (if you didnt disable it) requires space to grow also. generally pagefile should be hard set to at least the amount of RAM + VRAM your system has (to allow for a complete data dump) - it isnt required to have a pagefile but it does benifit the majority of users.

can you look at: event viewer/log?

control panel > performance information~tools / advanced > event viewer

or find and run it from the search command.

at the very top left of the viewer highlight event viewer (local)

a list of 'critical' errors causing ytour issue should be there?

One thing came up. Event ID: 41. Source: Kernel-Power. Log: System. How do I fix this?

possible power issue, try reseating your power plugs inside, ensure all the cables are in good order and not damaged.

this is usually a hardware fault, cables, psu, grounding, short. can you open up your pc and check everything is seated - power plugs, cards, RAM, cpu etc.

I reseated all power plugs. It booted up fine, but when I tried to play Skyrim (on all minimum graphics levels, mind you), the first two times I tried, it just crashed Skyrim. The third time I tried, it crashed my PC.

No. I'm saving up to buy a new CPU tho. Would that maybe fix the issue?

Hm. Okay. What do you think I should do: Buy a new CPU or save up for a new GPU?
