Is this worth $100?

So I am thinking about upgrading my existing Alienware R5 to an R7. The cpu choices are as follows:
Intel® Core™ i7 8700 (6-Core, 12MB Cache, up to 4.6GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology)
This is included in the price. But for $100 more, you can get:
Intel® Core™ i7 8700K (6-Core/12-Thread, 12MB Cache, up to 4.7GHz w/ Intel® Turbo Boost Technology)
So, are the k at the end, the 12 threads and .1 ghz worth $100?

They are both great. Only you, your MOBO, and the luck of the silicon can answer that. What happens if you only get an extra 200 mhz of performance out of the overclock resulting in a 1-2 fps gain in gaming performance. Is that worth it? Or you could get 500-900 mhz of performance out of the CPU and get an extra 4-8 fps. Is that worth $100? It's up to you and your luck.

Depends on what you are using it for.
What's in your current R5?

EDIT: Are you buying a brand new R7, or trying to replace the cpu only in the R5?
The 8700 is only compatible with 300 series mobos, even though it also uses the LGA 1151 socket.
