how can i make standard user an administrator on this used wind 7 home premium that was in a workgroup at 1 time. everything asks for an admin password. I'm not very computer savvy but very good at following directions. Ya'll can help save my sanity I hope! Thank ya'll

Unless you are the Administrator with the necessary rights you cannot change a standard User to an Administrator.

Forum rules prohibit helping with bypassing security settings or administrative constraints.

You must work with the Windows 7 Administrator Account for the computer in question.

Otherwise you will need to reinstall Windows and start fresh.

I don't have a installation disc as this was used, @ you don't know if it's actually mine, I understand that, but please tell me best, least destructive way. I've got plenty of storage. seen booting up from safe mode, a reimage. I have no restore points where there was one also need to know how to reformat drive from safe mode boot. He removed his acct before selling but I can't even do disc cleanup or anything basic as using control panel or install any of your recommended software. I've seen where recovery is pre-installed on 7's I think. Have a 10 with only 4 GB ram, couldn't even install anti-virus on that so pretty useless, 385 MB available so I don't want to "fry" this one. Please tell me what to try first. already did cmd, @ make user active, going to users on control panel or is anything so potentially harmful that I need to buy installation disc. This used floppy disc, theres no place to put disc but I have cd reader/writer. Hate to spend that for a $65 used computer.Sorry for length of this but any help would be SO GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thank you @ it didn't occur to me that this would be against the rules, I understand that, if mine was stolen that ya'll are so reputable.

The recommendation is that you contact the previous owner or the manufacturer to get the password if you truly feel that doing so is necessary.

Another point: It has also been strongly recommended, with respect to any used computer, that you wipe the drive(s) and completely reinstall Windows again.

Who knows what the previous user/owner had installed and putting any of your own personal information on that system puts you at risk.

Or there may be other less than savory files and information stored on the computer. You could be held responsible for such files.

Wipe the system using DBAN and install your own Windows license.
