Hello there, This is the first time I'm posting anything to get an external perspective on things IT. Please excuse the lengthy write. For almost 20 years I’ve always turned to Tom’s Hardware rather than anywhere else for accurate opinions. I'm in the process of finalizing a new build on which I could do with the forum’s expert perspective. I'm an ex-DJ who's also into event production consultant, music therapist, DIY enthusiast on my way to provide backing and support to my Wife who's currently on Instagram and plans to go YOUTUBE soon!:)

Building a new setup from scratch, I plan to assemble with Two monitors + 16GB RAM + 120GB SSD + 2Tb Hybrid HDD + 8Tb External HDD + HD Cam + 550W PSU gaming cabinet. I've considered Xeon Single/Dual CPU, even Intel i3/ i5 /Ryzen 5 with external GPU. GPU prices have skyrocketed. Dual socket motherboards are very expensive out here in India. BTW my last PC was a Dell Optiplex 330 with Core2Duo E6550 almost 8 years ago.

Since I'm relatively new to video editing, I would like to have the extra horse power to be prepared to handle experimentation as well as quite a bit of data simultaneous multi tasking without a glitch.
After having spent a lot of time I’ve narrowed my choices down to Ryzen 2200G / Ryzen 2400G / Ryzen 2600 / i3-8100 / i5-8400.
Costings apart, which one would be more ideal for me?
I would love to be prepared but have no intensions of OVERKILL!!
:ouch:

Now, I don’t intend to build a game station. This build is gonna be a workstation for video editing, recording audio, music creation, multimedia batch tagging & operations, streaming videos, streaming radio, occasional Solitaire/Spider/Arcade Games. There's going to be a lot of photo editing, chroma editing, internet browsing, multiroom music streaming, audio production, 3-d printing, web work, downloading & uploading. I'll be editing videos shot from Sony DSC-HX200, Action Cam & Mobile Shooters.

Also looking to save and upgrade after about 6-8 months. My IT Budget has to be under US$1500, since I’m building a Studio cum Wellness Centre there’s other expenses to be met too.
Thank You :wahoo:

The problem with Ryzen graphics is it uses your system ram as videocard ram, so your system will only have ~14gb to use. Also, it's slower. My suggestion is to look at the Ryzen 2400G as a great choice for someone with modest demands and who wants to save money.

I think if you are planning to do a lot of video editing you'll want a dedicated videocard. This frees up your system ram and will be much more responsive in editing. This is especially true if 4k video will be edited. I suggest you go to the website of the software you intend to use and see what hardware they recommend. Usually Nvidia gets recommended, since a lot of software uses CUDA cores. Depending on your needs, a GTX 1050 might do it.

Cores and threads are very helpful in video editing, so the 2400G or 2600 would be my choices.

Thaks for your response dontlistentome.
let me get this straightened out. My editing skills are at a level where I'm doing background removals, cropping and creating intros as well as outros using windows apps, creating blog posts, website designing, putting together video stories, adding filters and effects (Beautifying the entire clip into a well laid out movie-style presentation. My learning curve will include Remix3D, Blender, Photoscissors, GIMP, VSDC. I'm planning to also dive into HIT Film Express at a later stage. Does my current skill set require me to add GPU or I should go in for higher RAM since I've come across a lot of places where they're saying that Ryzen is RAM Hungry? Mostly, for now, the videos that'll be edited are shot using an INFOCUS M680 smartphone with 13 MP shooter (My Wife's Phone)

Unless you want to be spending on a discrete gpu, your practical choices are going to be the 2400g & the i5 8400.

The i5 is stronger on a cpu level, the 2400g is stronger graphically.

For your use I think either would do the job honestly.

The Ryzen 2600 would honestly be the best choice on actual cpu performance BUT that's another $100 or so on a gpu then.

Regarding the rest of your planned list ?

Make it a 240gb ssd & a standard 7200rpm 2tb secondary drive, it'll be the same cost overall , there is no benefit,to having,a,hybrid drive for secondary storage when you have an ssd for the os & installed programs.

Thanks, MADMATT30 even though I've had my mind set on Ryzen2600 but the setup will upset the budget by more than 460USD (the prices of Great GPU in india is actually mind boggingly high) just a 3gb 1060 will cost more than 360USD (converted prices), whereas 2400G is at around $181. Ryzen 2400G is beginning to sound more within my grasp. I get you on the change of Hybrid to normal and increasing the SSD size. Thanks for this. You wont believe when I say that my current PC has Biostar J3060NH with 8GB DDR3 SODIMM-L and 1tb 7200rpm WD internal HDD. Its just aroung1.6hz. I've also got a Dell Optiplex330 with Core2Duo E6550 4GB RAM. I shall also be trying out Microsoft Mixed Reality, but this PC's graphics driver and processor won't work with Windows Mixed Reality. Any ideas?
