Hi so a few weeks ago it was raining and I didn’t know so lightning went off near my house and my computer froze so I turned it off by holding the power button and left it off I got back on it a few hours later and my Ethernet port on my pc was no longer working and my WiFi worked but when I tried to go to browser it just said network error while it was connected. I decided to buy a usb to Ethernet adapter and it works fine but it still dose the same thing as it did on WiFi then I noticed the light was blinking orange on my router where the Ethernet cord was plugged in I’m pretty sure there’s nothing wrong with my router since my brothers computer connects and runs fine but mine just doesn’t and I don’t know what to do my last step is getting a whole new motherboard cause I feel like it had affected it to the point where it won’t let me do anything on the internet please help.

Does the device show up in the device manager as installed? Often you need to download current drivers, although with some device Windows 10 will handle that if you are running 10.

I too live in an area with a lot of lightening. I replace an LAN card about once a year somewhere in my network, most often on the wife's computer, as its motherboard LAN port died long ago.

The energy from nearby lightening strikes has a significant effect on the Ethernet and often only damages the client adapter but can damage anything -- including router ports.

Turn off the onboard LAN port in the bios and try a different router port to start. Also, check your Ethernet cable.

You can also set the priority of adapters (that is which gets used over others) in the network control panel, under the change adapter settings choice.

Did you disable the LAN port in the bios and install the latest USB Ethernet port drivers for the specific unit? And what USB Ethernet device are you using?

The usb to Ethernet I bought said I didn’t need to have drivers installed although it did come with a disk to install some it’s like a small mini disk and my desktop disk tray don’t support the mini disk
