After I installed Win 10 Pro 64 bit, I was doing some investigating on my ATT Router, and discovered that my MAC address was 88.88.88.88.87.88. I don't believe that this is an appropriate setting. What are the dangers of leaving it like that? I have been using this Motherboard for almost 4 years (ASUS P9X79 Pro). How do I go about changing it if this setting is problematic. I have contacted ASUS, and they told me that I would have to send the MOBO in for the repair. Is there another alternative to change it?

You might want to check the setting in the nic many have the ability to use a different mac address. It does not actually change the mac that is in the chip but it allows the OS to use a different one at the same time. For the vast majority of things it will appear as if you changed the mac. Most the issue are with thing that work at the bios level. I know Wake on LAN only works with the mac address that is burned into the chip.
Hey, that's a LUCKY MAC!

OK, looks a little off but...... MAC address is only LOCALLY SIGNIFICANT (yes that's a precise tech term). meaning is only affect what is within your own LAN, it doesn't do anything outside to the Internet and beyond. So AS LONG AS there is no duplicated MAC in your LAN, ur OK. If you have duplicated MACs, your DHCP would pop u up a msg saying "address already assigned" or similar.

Thanks, your answers are reassuring. My concern was with computer security and the likelihood of being hacked. It doesn't look like that's the case here. Asus was willing to change it, however it involved sending my Mobo to them for repair. The last time I needed to do that, the motherboard came back damaged, and no one would take responsibility.
Thanks again for the insights,
Denny
