Can I use Nvme on older mobo with pcie adapter

You'll only get full read and write speed if it's a PCIe x 4 Gen 3 which your board supports. But you'll have to use one of the x16 slots (preferably the x16 wired as x4 slot) to do that as it won't get full speed if it's installed in one of the x1 slots.

Also, it probably can not be used as the 'boot' drive, but maybe someone else has ideas on that.

No boot so it's useless for me since I only want to speed up windows and softwares. ok then I'll first purchase z390 and thanks for the help guys it was the right choice to ask here before spending $270
