I built a gaming rig about 2-3 years ago and its treated me very well! Recently I can tell that it is started to get slower and not running as well as it was. My question is mainly is anything else coming out in the way of CPUs or GPUs in the near future that I should try and hold off for? This is a gaming rig so I plan to put a fair amount of money into it so the price of brand new parts isn't a worry. Does anyone know of anything that I should hold off for?

Solution
Intel:
Currently we have 6 Cores in the I7 Mainstream (8700k).
I´ve heard that they will release and I7 8 Core CPU for the Desktop but they might rename it
This should work with Z370 and Z390/Z470 (what ever the Name will be).

It is hard to tell, how the name will be. there are a lot of rumours about that.

Nvidia:
Next gen will use GDDR6 instead of GDDR5/5X atleast on the high end XX70 and XX80, not sure about upcoming XX60/XX50 cards.
As always you can expect a GTX 11/2080 will have a little bit more power than a 1180ti but I am not aware of any Benchmarks that are confirmed to be true.
What i know is, that Nvidia will (99% sure) reveal them at Gamescom.

Your Cooler:
Did u try remounting it?
Somestimes new thermalpaste helps :D
Intel might release an 8-core Mainstream till the end of this year.
Nvidia will release their new 11/20-Series GPUS in 1-2 Weeks (if you can believe this rumours), but definitly this year.

You should wait till the end of this year and see, what kind of permformance bump you can get.

And: Have you tried reinstalling windows? it might be full of junk :D

LOL!! Well I think my water cooler just went, can't really tell but my i7 is running at 100C just as of today so I stopped running it. Think I might pick up a shitty water cooler and see if that works.

Also do you mean a i9 8 core mainstream? or what exactly do you mean.

Whats the big deal about the new 2000 series? Big performance boost from the 1080ti?

i forgot about AMD:
2. Gen Ryzen is out with up to 4,2 GHZ on 8Cores/16Threads. As the first gen was, this is a good "bang for the buck" ;)
Vega refresh should also come this year, but it is worth waiting for Navi.
From what i now: AMD used 1/3 of their Ressources for Vega and 2/3 of their Ressources for Navi since Navi might be the GPU of the upcoming Playstation 5 (RUMOURS!!!)
