I5 8400 or i5 8600k if not planning to OC

I would like to know wheather the i5 8400 or the i58600k will be a better choice when paired with the gtx 1060 6gb. If I would buy the i5 8600k I would not planning on overclocking, since it would be fast enough for gaming as it is. Is it worth the extra money for the higher base clock speed?

My setup would be:

CPU: I5 8400 or i5 8600k
GPU: gtx 1060 6gb
PSU: EVGA 600 BQ 600w
MOBO: gigabyte z370 d3
Cooler: Deepcool gammaxxx 400
RAM: Corsair vengeance lpx 16gb (2x8) 3000mhz

Solution
It really depends. The i5-8400 is a solid chip, but the 8600K will likely be beneficial in a lot of games.
Paired with a 1060 though, I'd imagine they'll perform pretty similarly.

It's a cost vs performance gains kind of thing to me.

The i5-8600k carries a ~$60 premium over the 8400, and requires the purchase of a cooler too.

You're also pairing it with a Z370 board, which would probably be overkill if you're not overclocking (although keeping your options open with a K CPU isn't a bad idea).

I'd be more inclined to drop to a B360 board and an i5-8400 with the stock cooler.
That's anywhere from $110-$150 in savings vs the 8600K, Cooler & Z370 board.

With the money saved, you could bump from a 6GB 1060 (about $270-$280 today)...

Also, the BQ lineup isn't too great. There should be better options for the money (CX550, TX650?)

If you buy a z370 based motherboard, you are leaving some 30% cpu performance on the table by not overclocking a 8600K.
Overclocking is a misnomer, today it consists of simply raising the all core multiplier in the bios from stock 36 to a higher number. 45 is very reasonable.
You need not do anything initially.

If your games are sims, mmo or strategy games, you will appreciate the faster core speeds.
If your games are fast action games, spend more on the graphics card.
