Are you sure it's a 6 pin that is plugged into your CPU and not a 4-pin or 2x(4-pin) connector? Which CPU / mobo do you have? Which PSU do you have which GPU do you have?

Maybe you can use a molex to 6-pin converter if your psu has enough current capability and wattage

Your PSU is likely a low quality unit if it has no PCIe power connectors. The one for the motherboard is CPU power and a different configuration than PCIe power.

You definitely need a new PSU and should get a good quality one. Here are some choices for a range of budgets. I don't know what GPU or CPU you have. So to play it safe I'd recommend at least 600w.

Good quality
- Corsair CX or CXM (black letters not units were CX/CXM are written in green, those are older low quality units)
- Seasonic M12 II Evo (should be Evo not older non-evo model)

Very High quality
- Corsair TXM (Black no Yellow letters)

Top quality all nearly equal
- Seasonic Focus or Focus Gold
- Corsair RMx/RMi
- EVGA G2/G3

Great answer and good recommendations for PSU. I would still like know what hardware OP has and if there's an alternative available. Remember - not everyone has access to Amazon and newegg and may have limited availability or exorbitant prices on acquiring new hardware depending on where they live.

Of course. That's why I give a range of options. So, that they will hopefully find a good deal where they live. Odds are at least one of them won't have an insane price.

I hope so too. I'm still curious to see if there might be a cheaper fix based on OP's hardware/specs
