Thinking of getting it in a few months, it's an easier option since my motherboard (skylake) supports it
At the moment I got
i5-6400
RX 480 4GB
8GB RAM @ 2133MHz (1 stick)
msi h110m pro-vh plus

Do you guys think it's a bad idea? Should I get a newer processor like i5-8xxx/AMD Ryzen 5 1600 and a new motherboard? My budget is 250€ and I cannot push it more than that. The 8400 goes for 177 and the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 goes for 163€.

The i7-7700 costs 284 and if the price drops I could get it and keep the motherboard since it is compatible with Kaby Lake

200 Euros won't get you anything much better than the 6400. Is there any reason you want to upgrade your CPU? The 7700 would be the BEST upgrade path on those boards, but be sure to update your BIOS to a version that supports them before you install the new chip.
