I bought a HD 7770 ddr5 1 gb which I am trying to run on my CPU (Pentium 2020 3rd gen, 4 gb ddr3 ram, gigabite h61 mobo) + samsung 19" b300 monitor. My monitor remains black as if switched off when I connect the HDMI plug to the gpu though the CPU keeps functioning. Is my gpu dead?

Solution

Does the fan spin up on the video card? Does that video card require a PCIe power connector from the power supply or is it just powered from the motherboard PCIe slot? It's been a long time since I've dealt with an HD 7770 (or my older HD 4870).
Does that CPU/motherboard combo have on board graphics? If so, remove the video card and plug the monitor into one of the video outs from the motherboard. If you have a display, then you have a video card problem. This is assuming your power supply is adequate, not failing, and you have the correct power connector to it hooked up.
