Hi, I have Asus Z170 gaming pro, with Samsung Evo 970. Latest BIOS applied. I'm able to start Win10 installation process, but after the first restart I have "unmountable boot volume" BSOD sceen and then another restart with "multiple installation errors" then PC is turned off. I tried to install it several times, the same result. I tried to clone the system with different tools first but I wasn't successful as well - cloning process stopped in different stages for hours. I tried Samsung tool, and others - every try failed. Do you have any ideas what is going on here?

The Samsung EVO 970 and your Asus Z170 Gaming Pro are a good fit. I suspect this is a BIOS issue. In the motherboard, reset the BIOS to the default settings. Make sure the ssd is the boot dirve, have no other SATA drive attached to the motherboard, and you should be able to install Windows without issue.

Thank you! I tried this before - EVO970 is the only drive attached, and I've tried so many BIOS options to make it work. DO you have any idea what should be changed in BIOS after that restart to boot from it? It's strange that I was not able to clone it before anyway.

With the Samsung EVO 970 installed, and your flash drive to install windows in a usb port, boot your pc and go directly into the BIOS. Exit the BIOS, choosing "Load Optimized defaults". At this point, you don't want to be overclocking or anything else. When your pc reboots, hit F8 and your Boot Menu will come up. Highlight your usb drive and hit enter. Your pc will boot off of your usb drive and start the install process. Be sure to delete all partitions on the ssd. Do not create any partitions on the ssd, the windows install process will take care of everything.

I should have said so earlier, but make a fresh installation usb drive using Microsoft Media Creation Tool 1803 for this install.

Again, I'm pretty sure that this has been a BIOS issue. By setting the BIOS to "Load Optimized Defaults", it should remove the BIOS as a cause. If your windows install drive is corrupted, by making a fresh install drive using Microsoft Media Creation Tool 1803, it should remove that as a cause.

Just to be sure, you have BIOS version 3805, dated 05/25/18 installed? You should be good to go.

I have 3805 BIOS from 05/16/2018, I've tried with MS media creation tool and optimized BIOS settings, and then I have 0x80070001 error (Systems windows cannot install all necessary files) during installation process, so I can't even reach the first restart as before. Now I havce another USB so I'll try again with another pendrive.
By the way - previously I used rufus tool to create a boot USB drive.

I would first try a better cloning app. Have you still an OS drive that works ? Have you tried Macrium Reflect the free version? Here are the steps to use this clone. It most always works.

Second, I would follow these steps for an install of Windows 10. If neither remedy satisfies, return the drive.

It's advisable to boot in UEFI mode. You first insert the usb created by the MS media tool with the windows install files into the board. Then go to the board setup and ensure the board is configured to use UEFI settings, not compatibility or legacy mode.On the motherboard boot device menu, select the command that identifies both the firmware mode and the device. For example, select UEFI: USB Drive (Windows Boot Manager manager may also work) by listing that device in the first boot slot on the board. Reboot.Install begins.
When choosing an installation type, select Custom. Delete all partitions, the drive will now show a single area of unallocated space.

Select the unallocated space and click Next. Windows detects that the PC was booted into UEFI mode, formats the drive using the GPT drive partition scheme and begins the installation.

I think I have to return the drive, I tried two USBs, still nothing. I tried 'UEFI only' Bios option but then the M.2 SSD is not available. I have another, but normal 60BG SSD, and the installation is perfrect on it. Everything works as expected there, but not on this M.2.

I have tried Macrium - was able to clone 80% then received an error - I checked 'disk management' and I can't see the drive! I tried Samsung migration tool as well, but nothing helped. I give up, the drive is broken maybe :(

Unfortunately not, I returned a drive, then I bought a new PCIE Plextor nvme drive, and it works perfectly :)
