E7500 + gtx650ti boost 2 gb , wht should i build?? 7th gen intel or 8th gen

Currently i have this kind of pc :
Core 2 duo e7500
2x ddr2 2 GB
Gtx 650ti
Corsair cx500
Wd blue 320gb

If i want to build a new pc atm, should i buy the i5 7th gen or i5 8th gen and why?? Should i buy a new power supply ?

I'm planning not to upgrade in the future and my budget is around $500++. The pc will be for programming, light 1080p gaming and movies. Thank you

Get an i5 8th gen. It is pointless to invest in old hardware. 8th gen i5s have 6 cores and are better for gaming.

As for the power supply, the cx500 is an okay PSU but I would still upgrade it to a decent quality PSU like a Corsair CX550M or a TX550M. Bitfenix Whisper Formula is also a good one.
