GTX 770 not recognized by PC, complicated problems?

I got an ASUS GTX 770 yesterday and my friend and I are stumped about the problem we have with it. I had a GT 430 before this and it worked just fine before swapping it for the 770. We made sure everything was plugged in correctly, got the 6 pin connectors in the 770, etc. I got a VGA adapter for my monitor and plugged it into the gpu in the correct slot, but when I loaded the pc up, the screen was really screwed up just like when I first installed the GT 430, as in a blurry and stretched resolution. The resolution manager doesn't fix a single thing. I thought it was a driver problem, so I uninstalled all my nvidia drivers and reinstalled them correctly and we still got no results. This went on until we'd done this and rebooted around 8 times. Put the GT 430 in. Same problem. Tried the 770 again. Still no luck. Something about a Code 43 in device manager. Tried fixing that, no solution worked. Now device manager won't show anything related to the 770 and display adapters is absent from the options. Epic Games, upon restarting the system, says that the card can't be recognized and says to check if its the minimum system requirements or whatnot. So now both of my gpus don't work and my pc doesn't recognize any gpus. I even booted into bios and tried fixing the problem there, but nothing worked. Eventually, my friend and I just put the monitor cable back into the motherboard to run it normally and without a gpu, and when we did that, the computer went entirely back to normal. Please help! I don't think its a problem with the 770 since this affected my old gpu as well, which worked fine up until I swapped it out for the 770. I have a 550w PSU, so I don't think that's a problem either.

Solution
Just try running without the gpu and install the latest drivers and then plug in the GPU. If the problem still persists do a fresh install of windows as some windows drivers might be corrupted.
