hello everyone im currently looking to upgrade my pc but i used a bottleneck calculator and it sayd my CPU is too outdated for a gtx 1080 and then i checked with a1070 and it said my bottleneck should be fine. so my question really is will gtx 1070 bottleneck with my rig? the website says it will work fine with only 7% bottleneck is that okay?

MY RIG

i7 4790 CPU @ 3.60Ghz

GTX 970 EVGA 4GB (3.5) xD

8gb of ram (will have this up to 16 by the time i buy the 1070)

Solution
You should be fine with either GPU. It's difficult to use a bottleneck calculator unless it was figuring on a specific game because all games are different. Some games would not be bottlenecked at all, while others may see a slight bottleneck.

so you think with a 1070 i would be seeing any bottleneck?

I forgot to mention that screen resolution will play a big factor. For 1080p the GTX 1070 would be good and the GTX 1080 would be overkill on a lot of games. If you had a higher resolution monitor such as 1440p or 4K then the GTX 1080 would be good and your CPU would be less of a bottleneck.

*A GTX 1070 Ti would be a good choice I think, even for 1080p. It will give you the extra power for future titles.

alright ty. so if i have 1070 with a 144hz gsync monitor i should be fine in terms of bottleneck?

I would think so, especially with G-Sync helping to keep things smooth when you are below 144fps. Like I said, every game is different and performance will vary. But for the most part you should be good choosing between GTX 1070, 1070 Ti, or 1080.

You're fine; I ran a GTX 1080 with a 2600k for a while, and it performed good enough to allow 4k @ ~45fps in most titles. Certain titles will cause some performance loss, but nothing major.
