Problem:
-playing a game with a stream on other monitor

-Pc froze with black screen and some lines it (has happened before but a restart usually fixes it)

-Went to restart and then once it got past windows 10 logo, the screen would go black.

-after a couple restarts, auto repair come up

-Reinstalled windows, it let me boot up to homescreen

-As soon as I reinstall gpu drivers, screen goes black, try restarting

-Goes back to automatic repair loop

Things I have tried:
Tried in automatic repair:
- can boot into safe mode
-Downloading drivers from AMD website and device manager
- DDU before installing drivers

Diagnosis:
srttrail.txt (file windows sends the log for automatic repair) saying: e:\boot\resources\custom\bootres.dll is corrupt.

- showing black screen on startup after windows 10 logo when gpu driver is installed
- Opens automatic repair when gpu driver is installed
- All of this only happens after installing the gpu driver

Temporary work around:
- deleting the gpu driver in safe mode ‘uncorrupts’ bootres and lets me get to desktop
- GPU shows up as microsoft basic display
- However installing any form of AMDdriver, screen goes black and then have to restart and then starts the automatic repair

Reasons why this is all happening?
- something wrong with drivers
- GPU broken

Solution
pull the gpu if the pc boots to windows on the onboard video. try another gpu in the pc. if it boots fine your old gpu may have failed. check to see if it under warranty. some of the older gpu had lifetime warranties.
