I currently have an i5 3470 and was wondering it was worth it i got an x5670. I already have a motherboard from a prebuilt left around but do not know if it would offer a reduced bottleneck because of the additional cores and threads. My current gpu is a gtx 1070, 16 gigs of corsair vengeance 2400mhz and a 144hz 1080p monitor.

Hyperthreading makes a big difference on my 2600k@ 4.5 vs it off. Games like FC5, Doom 2016, Ghost Recon my cpu usage was high 90s with gtx 1080ti in 1440p. Hyperthreading reduced cpu usage down to 60s and gpu performance improved alot too.

Only reason i found out HT helped me was because i had it off playing Dying Light. Only game i know of that didn't like HT.

Imo go for 3770k, your current motherboard is newer also.

3770k is faster single core and has Hyperthreading. Lga 1366 is quite much older even though 6c 12t its hard to say which will be better so was nit picking about the os. You'll find yourself reinstalling Windows i hope you're aware.
