I'm building a new PC because my old one died and can't turn it on, I will use windows 10 and a new HDD. I want to recover the info from my old HDD or use it if possible, my two questions are:

1.- Can I use two HDDs (the old one and new one)?
2.- If I connect the old HDD which has windows 7 in it but don't boot from it will I be able to see my info and retrieve it and then format it from windows 10 or should i buy a conversion cable and retrieve the info as an external HD?

Solution

Both can be done without an issue. Just make sure you don't select the wrong drive when installing windows. maybe keep your old drive disconnected until you have your new rig up and running. Then add your old HDD.
