Best CPU for an LGA775 Budget Gaming Build?

So i found an old Gateway computer on the side of the road a few months ago with an LGA775 Socket motherboard. Currently it has a Pentium E5300 and 6 GB of (DDr2 im guessing) RAM. Im getting a new GPU so i was planning on putting my old 1050ti in it once i get the new one but i wanted to know if there is a better CPU i should get for gaming

I'm thinking it would help a great deal to know the MB model and even then....being it's a Gateway and probably somewhat proprietary...it may be difficult to determine the processors the MB supports....and then there is the possibility the MB needs a BIOS flash.
