Any budget processors better than a AMD Phenom II X4 840T available?

Hi!

I currently have an "AMD Phenom II X4 840T" processor, and I was trying to find out if there are any budget/cheap processors available today that would be a good and worthwhile upgrade from it.

I was also looking to get a new motherboard with it, so it doesn't have to fit the same socket. I'm on a budget, so I'm only looking for a processor on the cheaper side. Basically, the cheapest with a big improvement gain is what I was looking for, if any exist.

Would it be worth it to upgrade to a budget/cheap processor or stay with what I have? Can someone recommend any to me that fit what I was looking for?

Thanks!

This is something to consider, IF you haven't purchased already. It's better than Phenom II, better than Bulldozer.

You can save more by reusing your HDD (and/or SSD if you have one).. The built in Vega graphics is excellent for integrated graphics, and you have room for better later. (or if your current PCIe GPU is better than the built in Vega) IF it fits in the case you have now, you can save money there again.

At the very least it's something to consider. (4-core 4-thread Ryzen 3)

Thanks for the response!

I don't really have a specific budget, I was looking for a processor that's lots better than the one I have that's on the lower/cheaper end. I took a look at the cheaper processors and I couldn't tell if any of them were better than what I had or not. Sorry I can't be specific, I was thinking to get whichever is cheapest that's a nice improvement over what I have.

Like the AMD FX 6300 isn't too much, but I don't know if it's worth it to upgrade to that from what I have. I really can't tell what processors are much better than what I have.

My motherboard is an "N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX". It's another reason I was wanting to upgrade, because it's an older motherboard. I thought maybe I could get a cheaper processor and motherboard together.

Thanks!

The fx-6300 is certainly faster than your processor and is cheaper to run than a Phenom II X6. There's nothing wrong with your processor unless your are running something that is slowing it too much.

You can still use the ddr3 in your motherboard in an am3+ motherboard. You can get cheap 8Gb ddr3-1333 RAM on Ebay from Hong Kong.

With an am3+ motherboard using processors with a 95W TDP you could use an fx8300 or 6300.

The thing is that an am3+ motherboard may not be suitable inside the case of a PC made HP, Dell etc. as they use proprietary cases. Check the motherboard manual, available online from the maker's Web site, to see if it fits in the case. It shows a diagram of the motherboard.
