I was installing W10 my new Samsung Evo 860 M.2 Sata and I got to the desktop then did the updates. While updating, the basement breaker switch tripped and power went out multiple times (when it goes out I have to go to the basement of my apartment complex to switch the breaker back on) and everytime I rebooted, the version 1803 update had to keep downloading and installing over and over again since the power would shut off before it got to 100% then Id have to wait for it to download and install again, then itd shut off again before completing. This happened at least three times before finally the power stayed on long enough to fully install. So did my mobo or ssd get damaged? Im going to reinstall and clean the drive just in case but even after doing that is it possible the components are permanantly damaged and how would i know? Thanks for reading.

I's suspect that your OS has been damaged. The rest of your components may be fine. Given how you may experience black outs very often, I'd suggest that you invest in a UPS or battery backup to prevent your system from abruptly shutting off.

For the sake of relevance please pass on your full system's specs, like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

Hopefully not, but may be difficult to determine.

Ideally the breaker tripped and physically prevented some damage. However that does not preclude some file corruption due to the abrupt shutdown that can make your computer non-functional until the damaged files are restored.

Overall, you probably should consider a UPS if at all possible.

Not likely to provide enough time to complete a reinstall but should allow you adequate time to gracefully shutdown when the outlet power is lost.

Plus you (and others) should have a chat with the apartment manager regarding the circuit breaker trips - likely to be some very unsafe situation somewhere and likely to only get worse.

With far more serious consequences.

My surge protection is cheap. Its a rocketfish wall mounted one cost about $20-$30. I think I'm just going to stay on the safe side and get a new mobo and ssd. Maybe even a new CPU and GPU. I'm heavily OCD so if I see a little micro stutter or something takes a little longer to load the power outages leaving the components damaged will linger in my mind. At least if that stuff happens on new unaffected hardware I have closure that's just the way its supposed to be lol
