Finally going to update my rig from 3770k and 980ti hybrid. I mainly play games PUBG, Overwatch, FPS games. Trying to decide if I want to get the 9900k or the 9700k and either get a 1080ti or 2080? Going to get the Thermaltake Level 20vt for a matx build and possibly the Swiftech Drive X3 cooler. Not many reviews on the Drive X3, but the sounds of being able to expand the cooler to the GPU with just added coolant, tubing and a water block for the gpu is enticing without adding an additional reservoir or radiator. Thoughts on that? is it necessary to add a res and rad? Not sure if the case will have enough room for all of that or even if it is needed.

Thanks!

Since there are no performance figures or pricing available for the 9700k or 9900k nor the "2080" (still not 100% on the name yet) its tough to make a recommendation. Performance may be great but not worth the boost in price. Your best bet is to decide on when you want to build and buy the best you can get "now" or wait a little if you know a new release is imminent.

As for using liquid cooling like that, the complication and maintenance required is a huge turnoff unless you are REALLY pushing your clocks you don't need it at all.

I figure the new GPU will be around $700 and i will be selling my 980ti to get a little bit of that cost back. Luckily i have friends who work for Intel, i can get the CPU discounted about 50%. I normally dont upgrade systems but once every 5 years or so, this would be my future proof system for the next half a decade or so.

With the liquid cooling, that is part of my concern as well. The Drive X3 is a closed loop with the option to make it an open, but I think if i keep it closed, shouldnt be any worry about maintenance or complications since it would be factory with no alterations on my end.

If you can get such a discount its a no brainer, wait for the 9700k to come out and buy that. 9900k is likely overkill. As for the GPU everything I read has pointed to it being more expensive than that, but supposedly release info is imminent so you will know for sure soon.

IIRC one of the other mods had a Swiftech that he had not taken apart yet leak and destroy his motherboard and GPU. It does look pretty cool I'll give it that, still I don't totally trust them unless you really need that specific application. There are many "safer" AIO's out there.

True, 9900k is probably more than what i would ever do. My question is, if you buy a AIO and out of the box it leaks and ruins your parts, is the manufacturer liable for that? or are they just liable for "their" product and you are hosed on whatever it ruins? Ive always ran air coolers currently and in the past

Within the warranty period they should be. I know Corsair has in the past done that for people. Looking at Swiftech's warranty page they seem to specifically exclude hardware, however Corsair's probably does as well and I know they do cover it on a case by case basis.

Its honestly rare that it happens, I run a Cryorig A80 AIO and my GPU has its own CoolerMaster AIO as well and I'm not worried about them.

Im currently running Benq 2720t 144hz and a Benq 2420t 120hz monitors. Im definitely going to wait when the intel 9 gens come out in oct. Hmm, sounds like the Corsair Hydro H100i, but that Swiftech Drive X3 looks sweet...
