Hi, my i7-7700k processor came in the mail today. I saw that when i opened the packaging, the processor was out of the plastic protective hold, and was freely moving around in the box. Will the processor still work? I ordered a brand new processor off of amazon

The Intel i7-7700k does not have "pins".
It is a flat surface on the bottom. The 'pins' are on the motherboard socket.

AMD CPU's have pins.

Just depends if your have a bent pin then it probably won't if you have enough to start building the PC you should build it and test it. However if you are still building the PC and don't plan to have it ready for a few weeks you may want to request a return from Amazon due to possible damage.

so do u think it is safe to use, or do u think I should return it. I already have a pc and am trying to upgrade it to the i7 processor. The reason i am hesitant to test it rn is i would have to buy more thermal paste if it does not work

It's probably fine, but there's only one way to find out, and that's by testing it. You should also be able to return it to the seller on Amazon if you're not comfortable testing it, especially if they are a "preferred seller". Another option is to just throw a heat-sink on there with no paste and see if it boots. If it works, pull the heat sink off and throw some paste on there and call it a day. I've seen GamersNexus do this, though he advised caution. The IHS might get a little scratched but it should honestly be fine.
