Should i upgrade or get a ps4(or xbox one)

Hello, i have a question. I currently own a PC, with a r9 380 and a i7 4790 @ 3.6GHz and 8gb of RAM. So i went to get it cleaned and the tech expert told me that i might need to upgrade by the end of 2018 or in 2019. Now looking at the graphics cards a decent one is $300+, the processor i consider to be fine. In my country $300 could get me more than a PS4. But the main problem are the games on PS4 that tend to be $60. So i found out about Playstation Now and i find the idea of "renting games" or getting access to them but paying monthly great. To be honest, on the PC i usually play multiplayer games, mainly Battlefiled 1 and uhhh Gta San Andreas Multiplayer. My brother also has a PC so if i need to do any school work i can do it on his PC. I think by using PS Now i'll play a lot more games than just Bf1, plus i can buy BF1 and keep it(no big deal). What do you guys think? Or should i maybe wait 'till PS5? But then my PC won't be as valuable as now. Please give me your opinions

Sorry but any hardware problems on pc like overheating and parts wearing out are the cause of making a bad build in the first place.
The fact that you need to constantly upgrade is false too, a well planned gaming pc will easily last just as long as a console if not longer.
If you upgrade every new generation that's up to you, but remember that upgrading a pc with every new generation of parts is...

Are you only wanting to upgrade because some 'tech expert' recommended it? Because your specs are still fine for playing most modern games at higher quality than consoles can offer. The R9 380 + i7 4790 can run games like BF1 at High settings 60+ FPS. From a Google search there's even gameplay of Ultra running at around 45ish FPS paired with an i5 6500, which is weaker than your CPU. I just personally don't see the point of investing in a console when you have a fairly solid Gaming system still. For the price of getting a console you could easily upgrade to a new GPU and easily smash 1080p, the i7 4790 should be fine for a few more years for Gaming. And in case you didn't already know, you can always hook up controllers to your PC and chuck it on the TV and bam, console replacement. Hope this helps! :)

Your build is solid and there's no reason to upgrade it if your playing at 1080P. As for a console I would go PS4 as then you can get Sony exclusives and most Xbox exclusives are available on PC. Also with your PS4 online sub you can get free games every month. This month I got Mafia 3 and last month was COD:BO3.

As for the PS5 the predictions are Q4 2020.

I just checked PS Now and it seems it doesn't really give out newer titles. And you have to pay for ps plus?

xbox has the better online experience by far. the xbox one x is a mighty fine gaming rig that comes close to high end pcs. the controllers are the best too. It's a highly customized AMD Zen architecture paired with the fasted ram GDDR5, the most powerful console to date. period.

Nothing newer but you can sign up for some beta's. I'm still kind of new to PS4 but I just paid for the online sub for a year. I think the PS+ is another sub but would include newer games. I just wanted to be able to game with friends for the online sub is enough for me and as for the cost of games they do have sales here and there for games but pretty much every newer game is going to be $60 for the base game and more the special editions.

Yea but it's tough to justify getting a Xbox when you can play most of those games on the PC and if you prefer the Xbox One controller you can just buy one and connect it to the PC which is what I do for most games.

well, see, I gave up on PC gaming. Too expensive for my blood to keep shelling out for new video cards and keeping up with the jones'. I just console game now and keep a console for at least 8 years or so. with such powerful consoles as the ps4 and xbox one, it is really a nice way to go now.

Interesting, i consider it the opposite now. I had both a PC/Console for many years but only this generation i sold my PS4 and gave up on Console gaming. More expensive games, payed online subscriptions (used to just be Xbox, but Sony joined them) and new consoles seem to slowly be pushing faster and faster (See Xbox One > One S > One X for example). There is no way either of the console will keep up for 8 years, even 3 is generous at this point with PS5 rumours already floating about. Just my two cents.

Understandable, it can get quite expensive especially when someone first starts out as your paying not only for the tower but your monitor, OS & peripherals. But if you plan accordingly your CPU should last at least 5 years, GPU around 2+ years and maybe the rare RAM upgrade. With quality parts your Case & PSU should last two builds and peripherals should pretty much last until they (If*) break.

I have plenty of working older consoles too. I don't think you quite understood what i meant. I was referring to support, not it simply working.

As for more expensive games, i thought you'd have noticed this if you've been Gaming on PC for a while. If you want more details, this is dedicated to covering everything on this topic > https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/wiki/guide, skip to "PC games are so much cheaper that they alone can allow even a high-end PC to undercut a console within a single year" + "Isn't PC gaming more expensive than console gaming?". Despite the source, it raises pretty much all the valid points.

I've no consoles since the early Xbox 360 and had continuous RROD so I gave up on it for quite awhile. With friends preferring consoles I picked up a PS4 a couple of months ago and I'll be picking up a Nintendo Switch around November so I can play Let's Go (Eevee or Pikachu) with my nephew although I'm a little disappointed as I hear Nintendo is going to start to charge for a online sub as well :kaola: .

well i've had no issues since giving up pc gaming, and it is a good way to go if someone doesn't want to keep up a pc. now i just get a pc, use it until it breaks and get a new one. same for consoles. when a descent video card is 3/4 to 2x the price of a console, I have a big problem. a card that is obsolete by the time i get it and then the games bloat so it runs like crap. no sir, i didn't like it. done.

consoles are build specific for gaming. pcs are not. hence, more problems, hence, more time spent on problems, hence, less time can be spent on gaming. that's the big factor for me, when I want to play, I don't want to deal with the pc overheating or wearing out gpu, psu, etc.. so yeah, you can keep that stuff. i turn it on and GO.

I understand some of your point, but a lot of this is just wrong/misinformation. Definitely read the article i posted in my previous reply... Other than that you asked for opinions and got them, best of luck with whatever you choose to do OP!

Well you don't need to upgrade your current system (PC), at 1080P/60hz there shouldn't be a game you can't run smoothly with decent settings.

If you upgrade every new generation that's up to you, but remember that upgrading a pc with every new generation of parts is exactly the same thing as buying the original Xbox One, then buying the One S and then the One X.
