CPU usage at 100% in games, GPU usage at 50%

When I play games the CPU usage goes up to 100% while the GPU is hovering around 60%. It makes the games drop a lot of frames. The games I have tested so far are Battlefield 1, PUBG and BO3.

I have the newest drivers for the GPU and have tried resetting the PC. When I played these games before this did not happen. The thermals are also not a problem.

Specs:
GPU: GTX 970
CPU: i5 4690K
Motherboard: GA-Z97X-Gaming 3
Storage: 500 GB SSD

Battlefield 1 is known for being CPU heavy, but wouldn't explain the change in behaviour.

Aware of any recent changes like driver or Windows updates? Background processes hogging resources? Do you use MSI Afterburner (or similar) to monitor performance?

Full specs may help others to help you too.

Dice did warn that when the last couple of patches came out, people with CPU's below the minumum required may have issues running the game (the CPU workload has increased)

As for PUBG and BO3, I don't know why.

If you run the game on low settings, you're putting more of the workload on your CPU instead of the GPU. Try increasing the graphic settings until there's a happy medium that will take some work off the CPU and add it to the GPU.
