Currently wanting to upgrade my stock Dell Optiplex 3050 with a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050 Ti OC 4GB (1455 MHz)
Will it work?? Do i need to replace the Power supply?
I cant seem to find another plug from the power supply so im not sure if itll power up just from the motherboard. help

Optiplexes have a 95W CPU limit. The PSU is a quality part and can power all the slots and bays in the computer. A 1050 Ti should run just fine.
Ther are adapters for converting the ATX 24 pin PSU cable to the 8 pin Dell.

ATX PSUs fit the MT size cases.
There was a Dell XE2 with a 6 pin PCIE and the 8 pin connector in an SFF size case. 315W PSU. Dell # VX372.

i just test fit a Geforce gtx 550 in it and it works fine... main concern is PSU... the thing is proprietary and only goes up to 240W

That computer was offered with up to an R7 450 as an upgrade. So I think one of those single fan, half length(not height) 1050 Tis which does not require a 6 pin power connector will work.

Obviously with a 240W power supply you're pushing things, but I think it'll work. The thing that makes me uncomfortable is the power connectors on the motherboard are proprietary, so even if a new power supply fit in the case you couldn't use it. You're stuck with Dell's power supply. A GT 1030 would be a safer choice but of course it's much less powerful.

Is it really pushing it? To my understanding, proprietary PSUs are better rated.
CPU is using bout 95W and the GPU would be using 75 to 80W (i think) so thats about 60W to spare...
Its not exactly a gaming rig but the 1030 would be too little, wouldnt it? I mean, i dont play much and certainly dont need to run ultra settings but there are some newish games i wanna give a go at.

Size wise, a geforce GTX 550 fits perfectly and its double fan and huge. A doube fan 1050 ti has some smaller dimensions as far as length and width

Long shot, the PSU will become the bottleneck until i can build something.

Sorry but i'm lost. Why would i need to get an adapter? you mean if i was to replace the PSU with a higher rated one?
That PSU seems very similar to the one in my 3050 MT... As far as pins go, id have to check.

I'm focused on inquiring about a 1050 ti but if yall have better suggestions, as far as compatibility or future upgrades (lifehacks, lottery numbers or anything really, lol) I'm all ears

The adapter would be for adding a higher rated PSU to provide the PCIe cables for more powerful video cards.
It wasn't clear to me which size 3050 you had. The XE2 315W PSU fits the SFF version.
With a GTX1050Ti you shouldn't need an adapter/PSU as long as you get one that doesn't need the 6 pin PCIe. Some models may come with this for overclocking purposes. But instead of an OC 1050 I would just get a 1060.
