Ever since I bought the 1070 3 days ago I get coil whine from the PSU when playing a game. For example, in the Witcher 3, I get a small amount which is fine because my headphones cancel it out, but, surprisingly, when launching ETS2, I get much louder coil whine which results in the PC completely turning off to restart again pre-boot saying that the motherboard has protected the PC with anti-surge because of a dodgy PSU.

The PSU was fine before the 1070 with a 750Ti, and I even underclocked the core down 100mhz and the memory clock down 200mhz, only to get the same result.

Sorry for the commonly repeated question, I just thought that 600w would be enough, with EVGA being a quality brand too. Please help!

Solution
It might be a lemon.
I would replace PSU, sometimes the specs goes off up or down.

For example
12V 5% 11.4-12.6V
5V 5% 4.75-5.25V

If it goes above or below, sometimes as your motherboard it prevents from going too low or too high.
Thats just too little money for that PSU, I have VS550 and it started to buzz on me when it shorted out (I did it on accident), and started to buzz, I turned the PC off, unpluged it from wall and pressed and hold power button for a good 2-3 minutes to let caps to discharge (PSU has to be switched on while unplugged).

Someone will recommend you a good PSU since I really don't know, they completley changed the listing.

Solution

Yeah, that PSU is garbage.

Something like these would be a lot better.

EVGA G2 or G3 550W
Corsair RMX 550W
Seasonic Focus Plus 550W.
