Is it necessary to use a g connector?

I recently built a PC and didn't bother using the g connector that came with my mobo. Is it a necessity for case cables or no? I just plugged in the cables of my case into my mobo without using the g connector.

If the pc is working fine, no you won't need it. The only benefit is when first building the pc, that connector is easily read, so polarity and correct spacing are easier to get right. While a speaker or off/on power work either direction, leds such as pwr_on/hdd light etc do not work backwards, so polarity is important. Far easier to build the connector outside, easier to read, than in many tight/cramped cases with that abysmally small mobo print.
