Hdd or ssd?

Solution
Depends on what you play really. Some games load quickly on HDDs enough for an SSD to not offer much value, but the same can be said for the opposite. Try playing Star Citizen on a HDD, takes me 2-3 minutes on a good HDD compared to 20 seconds on an SSD. Obviously this is one of the worst case scenarios from games i've played with load times but others are fairly long too like a couple open world games (GTA V, Witcher 3, etc), modern Total War games are pretty atrocious on HDDs too. If you play a fair amount of games that take a while to load, particularly competitive like PUBG where loading late can be a nuisance, i definitely recommend trying to at least get a 250GB SSD or so to fit your load time priority games. Hope this helps! :)
HDD will play a game just as good as an SSD, the only thing that will be affected is the load times of the game. For a HDD at least 1TB is desirable, but 2TB is what I recommend. Spawn time is also said to be faster with a good SSD, such as spawning in to a special vehicle or spawn point in Battlefield 1, but I cannot confirm this.

Best optimized & most cost effective setup is using an SSD for your OS & an HDD for everything not OS or system pertinent.

Games like Skyrim that allow you to mod or have large file sizes will benefit from being installed on a SSD compared to HDDs.
Games like World of Warcraft will benefit from SSDs, but not as much as Skyrim will.

Having a SATA SSD for your OS drive will speed ALL system processes by 2.5 - 3 times faster on average. M.2 SSDs can be much faster than that as well, but there is potentially a compatibility and/or cost issue w/ those.
