Asus PRIME H370 Plus RAM issues

Hi.

So, I just bought an i5-8400, and put it in an Asus Prime H-370 Plus Motherboard. Along with it, I paired 1x 8GB G-Skill Aegis DDR4@3000mhz.

Didn't realize this board doesn't support 3000Mhz RAM....Kinda disappointed. Tried to force the RAM to go at 2966Mhz or something like that, and my machine failed to POST.

My question though is that currently my BIOS as well as Speccy list my RAM as running at 2133Mhz. I'm not home right now to try just raising it up to 2666Mhz... But kinda sketchy about it now. It should work, no? Is there any way to force it to use my RAM at full speed? The BIOS shows that RAM -COULD- be overclocked to like 4000Mhz+ or something....So if that's an option listed, why won't my RAM run at the full 3000Mhz?

Tips / Advice appreciated.

Well, if your board doesn't support 3000Mhz RAM, I would go one step down as you said and try it at 2666Mhz. It should work fine as your board's specs say it supports 2666Mhz MAX. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-H370-PLUS/
