GTX 960 question

So my PSU is poor, it is 500w and has 20A on 12v rail, I found a reference GTX 960 (reason why reference is because they need only 1 6pin connector). I went on power supply calculator and my whole system consumes 271W on load, and 16.6A on 12v rail. So I guess that GTX 960 will be fine. Btw GTX 960 Reference is 120$ and as well as I found for the same price MSI ARMOR GTX 960 (they are both 2gb). What PCIe connectors is MSI ARMOR version using? If it is using 6+8pin connectors then I guess I am fine if I just plug in 6pin connector since it should be enough (75W from PCIe and 75W from 6 pin connector)

I wasn't aware they made the reference 960 in a 2GB model...been a while so I could well be wrong. All else the same, go with the reference card IMO. I recently purchased a refurb MSI 960 (4GB) that was very flimsy and didn't perform as well as the EVGA 2GB card in spite of an "overclock".

I can recall that when I purchased my EVGA 960 years ago that it came with an adapter from a 4 pin. I don't think that part will be issue. I recall the MSI being on 8 pin.

Your PSU will be fine. I have run (960) from 430W and had zero issues.

I just asked because I am not sure if 1 6pin connector is going to be enough.

I just watched a video about GTX 960 ARMOR 2gb and it has only one 6pin connector.

I personally think $120 is a bit on the high side. For only about $30-40 more you could look for a brand new GTX 1050ti 4gb card. Much faster and consumes less power. Not to mention you're going to start running into issue soon running a card with only 2gb of vram.

Problem is that 120$ is a bit over my budged, so 30-40$ more isn't an option, and 4gb on 128bit isn't very good as the same thing happens to 1060 3gb, 1050ti can't consume 2gb due to its lack of power, new games on med/high consume 2gb of vram which is LIMIT (and maybe over the limit) for 1050Ti. You won't be able to play new AAA titles on med/high with 60 fps (on medium yes but on high, doubt it) Assassins creed origins on Ultra uses 2900mb of vram on medium 1500mb, on high 2gb, and GTX 960 will struggle to maintain 60 fps on high.

Eventually, games even on low settings will consume 2gb of vram. Between that and less horsepower in the GTX 960 is why it won't last as long as the 1050ti.

But the real issue is your budget anyway so I guess the 1050ti is out of the question. I don't have the time right now but I believe someone posted earlier today a new GTX 1050 at B&H for $119. Might be worth looking into.

A good way to judge if you PSU is decent enough is to tell us the model #, 20amps on 12v is only 240watts, which sounds like you have a cheapo crappy psu, there are 350-500W units that are capable of delivering more power safely without the risk of frying components.

I am from Serbia, and everything over 50 euros is ridiculous to even think about buying as that GTX 1050 will end up as 200$

1: You posted a link to the GTX 960 4gb model which isn't even the card we're talking about.
2: As I said in my previous post, "Eventually, games even on low settings will consume 2gb of vram. Between that and less horsepower in the GTX 960 is why it won't last as long as the 1050ti."
3: When the GTX 960 was released 2gb was enough back then, moving foward it's going to be an issue with future games real fast.

Sorry to hear that. When you posted the money symbol it looks very similar to the US dollar symbol "$". I thought you were talking about U.S. currency.
