Solution

I've found that by default their standard fan curves are a bit low in older GPU's but that's easily remedied when you install the PrecisionX software and ramp up the curve a bit to keep the temps a bit lower. If you're doing standard air cooled expect normal load temps to be high 70s low 80s until you adjust the fan curve to a slightly more...

I am an EVGA fanboy.

They seem to deliver an outstanding product every single time. I've never even had to contact customer support because I've never had a single issue with any of their products. I'm sure some people have, I just have gotten lucky. I think they have really strict quality control standards as well.

I've had only good experiences with MSI. I don't think you could go wrong with MSI or EVGA, as they both have pretty good quality control and customer support. I couldn't speak for other brands.

If you're doing standard air cooled expect normal load temps to be high 70s low 80s until you adjust the fan curve to a slightly more aggressively cooled setting.

For standard air cooled GPU I like to keep load temps in low 70s. just my opinion, but I also opted to go for the hybrid 980 and now the hybrid 1080ti so I get the benefits of water cooling without the hassle of dealing with a loop or any of the maintenance.
