Connected devices turn off randomly

Hi,
I seem to have a strange issue with my PC. The devices which are connected to it are randomly getting disconnected, only to be connected again in like a second.

I typically observe the issue when I connect a usb 3.0 drive to the pc and start copying large ammounts of data (direction of data transfer does not matter).
When the copying happens I look at the transfer speeds to/from the usb drive and see that it hovers about 70MB/s then drops to 0MB/s every few seconds.

During those periods when I observe 0MB/s copying speed, sometimes this usb drive disappears from the system only to be reconnected in a second. Sometimes I also see my keyboard and mouse lose power and disconnect also. Even bluetooth mouse sometimes get disconnected during this period (it reconnects in a few seconds, but I cannot move mouse during this periods).

Another issue which happens pretty randomly is when I reboot I see that one of my harddrives is missing (I can sometimes see it as not formatted properly), but when I reboot again the drive reappears. I think this was caused by faulty hard drive, but I've already replaced all of them during few months and the issue is still here.
I've also noticed that hard drive is disappearing more frequently if I connect additional sata hard drive to the PC.

I'm starting to think this is either a faulty motherboard or a psu (will try replacing the psu first).
I'm asking here, because maybe someone had a similar problem and could point out a possibly faulty component which could cause this, or point out what else could I try.

What was done:
Check disk was run on all drives (there were sometimes errors caused by sudden disconnect of a drive, but were repaired, when run again there were no errors).
Hard drives which were thought to be faulty were replaced.
Computer was cleaned inside.

Computer specification:
Cpu: Intel Core i5 6600k @3.5 (stock speed, not overclocked),
Ram: Corsair DDR4 2x4GB 2400MHz, CL14, Vengeance
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z170-D3H rev. 1.0 (bios F5)
PSU: CoreXStream OCZ-CXS500W
Drive 1 (system): Samsung 850Evo 250GB
Drive 2: Hitachi 2TB (HUA723020ALA641)
Drive 3: Seagate 250GB (ST3250620NS)
Usb hard drive: Seagate expansion 1.5TB - when copying to/from this drive the errors happen more frequently, but the drive itself is perfectly stable on another pc
Hub: Chinese usb 3.0 hub (problem happens with this disconnected as well)
Keyboard: Genesis R33 usb
Mouse: A4tech XL-747H usb

Is there anything I can do to narrow down which component is faulty?
Best regards and thanks in advance

Solution
Hi,
I think it is fixed now. I decided to take the risk and updated the bios from F5 to F22f and I didn't see this problem ever since.
I'm running it for 3 weeks now and seems to be ok, I was copying files here and there, and all is good :)
If I have to guess, I'll say that it is either a soldering fault (factory fault or ruff threatment, eg after a fall to the floor) at the mobo (maybe near the power connector itself). Or it may be a fault with the power suply itself.

It is not possible to narrow it further down without having a schematic over the mobo internal power supply traces to different connectors.

That is - unless you are abe to actually see a bad soldering or a bad pin.

That said - NEVER OPEN YOUR POWER SUPPLY, as it can contain high voltage even if it has being disconnected for an extended period of time.

Hi,
@Grobe
I've opened the PC case and unfortunately I cannot spot any bad soldering.
I've also asked this on another forum and we determined with another user that one of the hard drives may be faulty (from reading smart values), but it wasn't the drive which took part in copying operation.

Anyways I've disconnected this drive anyway, moved the usb hard drive from front panel usb 3.0 to back panel usb 3.0 and the issue still happens.
What is strange is that when I connect this drive to usb 2.0 port the issue does not happen.
But all this time usb keyboard and mouse are connected to usb 2.0 ports and when hard drive triggers the failure they lose power too.

Unfortunately I'm out of ideas and I'll start by ordering a new PSU (will have to search for good one, perhaps on this forum I'll find the thread).
Unless there's something I'm missing.
Thanks anyway.

I've downloaded the software you suggested.
This is the screenshot and html generated report from it.

I'm very sorry but I don't understand what you want me to do in this software, could you clarify.
Thanks in advance.

The software only list avaiable usb devices. I'll guess that electro90 had in mind that it should help narrowing down the problem, but I doubt.

And yes - it is quite likely that a new PSU will solve the problem. If not, you would at least have one in spare.

Hi,

@Grobe
I've purchased a new PSU and situation has improved.
This is what I bought if anyone is wondering:
http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/products/ts-series-bronze-full-wired/ts-series-650w-psu-80-bronze-p1-650s-nlb9
After replacement of PSU I've noticed that now I only observe speeds of 0MB/s when copying data to usb drive.
When I copy them the other way speeds are steady at about 90MB/s.

Unfortunately I just observed the issue again, all usb drives, keyboard and mouse lost connection again.
This must be the motherboard then?

@ElectrO_90
I've tried removing the drivers, but unforntunately this did not help. Thank you for the help anyway.
