Firstly i must state that this issue has to be not mb-related. I switched 4 different mboards in the last two years and none of them could handle more than 2 sticks of ram (and now its only 1).
My thought is that i could ruin sth in my cpu by oclocking it too much, can it be the case?
I kept my 3570k cpu at 4.7 ghz for half a year before my msi z77 mpower mboard had burnt (vrm particulary).
Then i switched to a different mb, then i did it again and none of them could handle more than 2 sticks. Since not long ago its only 1 stick that my pc can start with. Tried many ram sticks - it doesnt depend on them.
Although i have to mention that this 2 ram restriction had started before i reached 4.7-4.8 ghz. It began when my friend brought me his 3470 cpu to test it in my rig. After puting his cpu in my mb im having ram issues on any mboard w/ my 3570k cpu
My first mboard was asus z77 p8 v lx (troubles started there, after puting 3470 cpu of my friend in it. Since then it could handle 2 sticks of ram but it could not indicate more than 4 gigs.).
2nd one was msi mpower which had burnt and it could handle only 2 sticks of ram
3rd one is asus z77 p8 v
It could not handle more than 1 stick of ram since i bought it
Strugling with 1x8 ram now. Its tough to live w/out duo channel mode

Overclocking the CPU shouldn't damage the memory controller as long as you haven't set the RAM voltage too high. However, as you have tried several motherboards and RAM kits, I suspect that the proplem is likely to be a faulty memory controller in your CPU. It's a rare issue but it happens from time to time.
Can you tell us the exact specs of the RAM you have tried?
